Vision
VSPE is the recognized voice and advocate of licensed Professional Engineers.

Mission (revised 8/18/2011)
VSPE, in partnership with NSPE, is the organization of licensed Professional Engieners (P.E.s) and Engineering Interns/Engineers in Training (E.I.s/E.I.T.s).  Through education, licensure, advocacy, legislative engagement, leadership opportunities, multi-disciplinary networking, and outreach, VSPE enhances the image of its members and their ability to ethically and professionally practice engineering.

Goals

1.  Licensure:  Promoting the value of getting and being licensed as a P.E.  (Responsible Director:  Ed Westerman, P.E.)

     1.1.  Actively participate & monitor activities at state licensing board (APELSCIDLA) & PE Section

     1.2.  Review regulations and propose any necessary changes

     1.3.  Make nominations to the Governor for vacancies on the Board/Section

     1.4.  Publicize licensing activities in VSPE e-newsletter

     1.5.  Offer PE review courses (in person & online) throughout the state

2.  Legislative/Government Affairs:  Maintaining and protecting the right to practice as a P.E. (Responsible Director:  Rich Nettleton, P.E.)

     2.1.  Actively participate in the Joint Legislative Committee

     2.2.  Communicate activities of the General Assembly to members

     2.3.  Submit nominations for trustees of the Virginia Engineers PAC to the VSPE Board of Directors

     2.4.  Support the Virginia Engineers PAC

3.  Education:  Providing continuing education opportunities for P.E.s to grow professionally.  (Responsible Director:  Aaron Zdinak, P.E.)

     3.1.  Continue being the lead sponsor of the Virginia Engineers Conference

     3.2.  Promote ethics for P.E.s

4.  Advocacy:  Promoting the value of being a P.E. and the reasons for using a P.E.  (Responsible Director:  Neal Wright, P.E.)

     4.1.  Promote the value of being/using an E.I.T. or P.E.

     4.2.  Recognize & celebrate Engineers Week in Virginia

     4.3.  Promote the relationship with VDEM regarding the Engineers Emergency Response

     4.4.  Promote the engineering profession through the MATHCOUNTS competition

     4.5.  Recognize outstanding engineering professionals from Virginia via the President's Award

     4.6.  Develop strategic alliances with SAME and ASCE/VA Section to promote the value of P.E., events, education

5.  Membership:  Increase membership to more effectively represent the profession of engineering  (Responsible Director:  Dennis Sobota, P.E.)

      5.1.  Increase membership categories by 10% using current resources

      5.2.  Retention of current members

      5.3.  Survey of Members and Non-Members
